Background: background prior to the events of final fantasy 14. there's no simple wiki link for the events of the actual game, so here's "jay describes each expac with a single bullet point".

→ Shortly after her arrival in Limsa Lominsa, Aria gets involved with the 3 city states' (Limsa Lominsa, Ul'dah, and Gridania's) attempts at fighting the Primal threat. She helps! People find out she's the Warrior of Light. Some less than cool dudes named the Ascians are found out to be the reason the primals are going nuts. But she and her friends of the Scions of the Seventh Dawn save the day! Then they get framed for poisoning the leader of Ul'dah and run to Ishgard.
→ Turns out Ishgard's also at war. Turns out that the ancestors of Ishgard killed some really cool dragons then covered it up to the rest of the world, so the dragons are pissed — so they've been at war for a century. Aria finds out about this while trying to stop said war and overthrows corrupted fantasy catholicism! But she loses the only person who believed her when she was framed for the poisoning. Unfortunately one of the ancient dragons is super insane and makes her other good friend (Estinien) insane too. It gets fixed but Estinien disappears to find himself and atone for his crimes.
→ Her efforts with Ishgard is recognized with the city states and she (and the rest of the Scions) can come back! But turns out that the most technologically advanced country in Eorzea — the Garleans — is looking to take over the world? And they've already occupied two locations — Ala Mhigo and Doma. So begins a rebellion tour to bring the city states together to fight against the Garleans! The leader of the Garleans gets obsessed with Aria. It's honestly kind of creepy.

In the process, her past is revealed to the Scions, and she needs to contend with the fact that everyone knows she got her brother killed. It sort of helps that she's able to free Doma, and makes peace with it — kind of. Both Doma and Ala Mhigo become free city states of their own accord, and an alliance across all city states is born! At the same time, all of her friends start keeling over and their bodies lose their souls. At the end, her soul is also taken to—
→ The First! Turns out that there are 14 different universes, but most of them have been destroyed due to the Ascians who are trying to bring all 14 worlds back to bring their world (and god) back. Aria, along with the rest of the Scions, have been brought from the Source in an attempt to stop it. At this point, Aria discovers that she is the reincarnation of the original Ascian from the days past, part of the main council of individuals in an Utopia that had been destroyed in the apocalypse. She saves the world, at the cost of almost turning into a monster herself, and manages to get her & her friends back home.

CURRENTLY: Aria and the scions are back on the Source, but it turns out that during their adventures in the First, the Garleans have preparing for a war against the rest of Eorzea. Another Ascian is found to be aiding the Garleans because he's a huge nihilist. Aria's so fucking tired of all these crazy people in her life.
Inventory: she's bringing her main tool as a scholar, a codex. it lets her cast magic, and is the main record of all of her studies! it looks like this ( the glowy bottles mean literally nothing ). very cool.
Abilities: as the warrior of light she gets a bunch of random powerful nonsense, which i don't really feel like bothering with. for as far as locomo will be concerned:

healer, magic user. she is, after all, a scholar through and through. her healing & battle magic is well-versed and powerful, though she tends to excel best in situations where she's supporting others & dealing with the tactical backend. her branch of magic is specifically called arcanima, where she applies the ambient magical energy of Eorzea (aether) into specific shapes and formulas to do what she wants. like magic engineering. she's a magic engineer.
eos. one particular thing she can do with her aether is to manipulate it into a faerie. Eos' basically a personification and conduit of her magic, but for the sake of rp i pretend she has 3 whole personality. she cannot speak. she mostly just flutters and heals, while rolling her eyes at aria.
the echo. the "power to transcend souls". long story short, it gives her the ability to see & experience the memories of a person as they lived it, and gives her the ability to speak all languages naturally. will be used with player permission.
misc. she's also an alchemist & tinkerer by hobby, and she's somewhat proficient in a bunch of different weapons & magic (none of which she particularly cares to use). thanks, protag syndrome.

CHARACTER SURVEY

What are your character's motivations? What drives them? Who are some important people to them, if anyone?
Aria goes because she doesn't know how to stop. Ever since getting involved with the Scions of the Seventh Dawn and (repeatedly) saving the world, she's taken to her role wholeheartedly because it's her job and not anyone else's. She's less driven to be good and more driven because she... is.

Important people include: her brother, Hayato. The Scions of the Seventh Dawn. That's about it.

If given the chance, what would your character change about themselves or their circumstances?
her conscious answer to this is nothing. despite all her hardships, she tries not to have any conscious regrets or wish for a different life. she's happy with her life because it's her's. that said, there is very little she wouldn't do to bring her brother back, so make of that what you will.

Strengths? Favorite things?
being smart(tm), math, battle strategy, sheer magical power. confident, charismatic, loyal.

coffee, wine, people. talking shop with willing participants. flirting relentlessly, doubly so if the recipient is uncomfortable. stirring shit.

Weaknesses? Fears and phobias? Anything they regret or avoid?
stubborn, proud, prone to lying. quick to judge, rash, ambitious to a fault. terrified of abandonment.

( her life is a series of regrets but that won't stop her ) while saving Doma helped with her childhood traumas, she still blames herself for the death of her brother. at the same time — she's selfish to a fault, and doesn't want to necessarily stop from doing what she wants. so while she cares about the people around her, and is very much "i'll die for you" levels of loyal, none of these things will stop her from chasing after what she thinks is right, no matter the cost.

Where does your character fall on the moral spectrum? Are they the average, law-abiding citizen? A mischief-maker? A genocidal villain? What are some of the things they've done for or against the greater good?
in terms of alignment, Aria's chaotic good; she's had to curb some of her more law-breaking ways and try and stay within the rigidity of working with official figures. that said! she's still god a solid streak of mischief and will likely turn a blind eye to any unsavory things being done in her presence, if not take part indirectly.

she has killed, brought countries to war, and nearly turned into a monster to do what she believes is the right thing. she has also reunited families, aided in rebellions against an imperial regime, and ended hundred year wars through the power of friendship. at any given moment, she's always trying to do what is the most "good" — it's just that she's not afraid to get her hands dirty.
