CHARACTER INFO

ABOUTWarrior of Light and Darkness, Slayer of Primals, Champion of Eorzea, Savior of the Star. For someone with a lot of titles, Aria's shockingly laid-back. Not to say she doesn't take her job seriously or that she's bad at it — she's neither of those things, thank you very much — but there's a confident, lightheartedness that never seems to leave her. She won't be the kindest person you come across, but she is friendly. Happy to chat. Not all that bothered if you recognize her and get a little starstruck. Clever and witty to the people that can keep up. Flirtatious to those that are receptive.

Though she wasn't always like this. She's only easy-going because she consciously chooses to be; her relationship to her role is one that took time to come to terms with. She's always valued her independence over all else, and will go through great lengths to protect it — even if sometimes that doesn't result in the best of decisions. It's only in recent times that she's really started living up to her role in every aspect; she just had to resign herself to it.

( It wasn't all bad; for all that she's lost, she's gained plenty too. Ask her about her Scions. )

No one else can do this but herself. She may not like it, but she's the only person she trusts to do a good job — if that means she's going to play the part of a perfect hero, so be it.

VISUALReference | scars (nsfw). She's got fangs, scales, horns, and a tail — your characters are more than welcome to assume she's whatever the hell they'd think she is, she'll be delighted. I want someone to think she's a vampire bc of her fangs. In FFXIV, she's an au ra — a race that originated from a far eastern continent of Eorzea.

She's generally pretty well-dressed, but she has zero hesitation about getting her hands dirty pretty much ever. There's a confidence to how she moves; she's very rarely hesitant when she decides to do pretty much ... anything, really. In the heat of battle, you'll see her healing alongside Eos.

AURALreference. Please ignore the visuals, they're very old. She's sharp, sarcastic, and animated — everything she says sounds a little flirty regardless of the situation. That said, she doesn't tend to really raise her voice unless she needs absolutely needs to be heard.

Despite her name, she doesn't sing.

BEHAVIORALIn public, she's impulsive, friendly, witty but in a cute and fun way ( or like she's keeping a secret from you, if you're looking ). Incorrigibly flirty if the person is receptive. Nothing about her is mean unless the other party fires first; then she's relentless. She hates to lose, and is stubborn enough to make sure she'll win. She's got a penchant for 'yes-and'ing scenarios just to see what'll happen with little regard for self-preservation, along with a penchant for bending the truth a little if it'll earn her a more interesting reaction. Very few things seem to rattle her, but she is naturally curious. Wicked smart ( she's a magical mathematician / engineer! ). If you need her to heal though, she gets ... bossy.

She drops her laissez-faire attitude pretty quickly when things get serious. And she's a little more emotive around the people she's comfortable with; things like concern or shock come much more quickly to her.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

tl;dr — a battle medic & healer, except make her god's favorite little guy. unfortunately i find the whole overpowered nature of the warrior of light kind of silly, so while i'll play it up for the right scenarios please feel free to assume she's just a very smart mage!

WARRIOR OF LIGHTBlessing of the Light: A ward placed on her by Hydaelyn to prevent aetheric corruption. It keeps her from being magically charmed or manipulated.
The Echo: The "power to transcend souls". It lets her see & experience the memories of a person as they lived it, speak all languages naturally, and catch glimpses of a person's soul.
Soroban's Blessing: It lets her breathe underwater.
Warrior of Light: She has a natural aptitude for picking up skills quickly, and she'll pick up mundane skills easily ( like driving a car ). Anything more complex ( like hand to hand combat ) will still take time. She'll also lose the ability to switch between jobs, unless it's been earned via player plot.

SCHOLARScholars are one of four available healers in FFXIV — they're users of Arcanima, a school of magic that manipulates the aether via mathematics. They were originally battle medics that doubled as on-field tacticians to help shield and protect their allies. While the civilization that used Scholars is long gone, its field of study as a variation of Arcanima still remains.

For reference, here's the Scholar job guide; she has access to skills up to & including Expedience @ level 90.

✱ Any area of effect (AoE) spells will affect up to 8 people (including herself) within 15 yards of her.
Healing: Spells like Physick, Indomitability, Lustrate, and Excog fall here. What it says on the tin! If someone gets hurt, she'll be able to heal it with magic. All of of her healing is for one person, except for Indomitability. The raw healing of Scholars in-game is definitely lacking, and I'll be playing it accordingly. She can heal, does it well, but her area of expertise is limited to what a battle medic could do. She won't be able to magically cure illnesses without the research to back it up.
Mitigating damage: Spells like Adloquium, Succor, Sacred Soil, and Deployment Tactics fall here. A scholar's kit really shines with its shields & mitigations that either reduce or negate the damage that someone takes during battle, avoiding the need to heal them in the first place. Most of these are AoE, with the exception of Adloquium! Notably, Expedience gives everyone a speed boost for a little bit.

To lean on the lore origins of scholar, I may occasionally play this off as her magically reading the 'flow' of a battle and using her magic to circumvent possible damage (a weapon being deflected by an unknown force, a trajectory of a bullet changing just slightly, reinforcing parts of someone's armor, etc). But the spirit of the skills will be retained; if someone was going to get very hurt, they might be slightly less hurt thanks to her fast thinking! Expedience will be limited to once a thread.
Offensives: Spells like Broil, Ruin, Biolysis, and Chain Stratagem fall here. If they know how to use their magic to heal, they can definitely use their magic to harm. They don't do a ton of damage, but they definitely enable others to do a ton of damage in their stead.

Biolysis is a weak but constant poison. Chain Strategem increases the chance that anyone who attacks them may 'Critical Hit' (ie, do extra damage), which will translate to her exposing an enemy's weakness. Chain Strategem will be limited to once a thread.

Summon Eos: Everything under the Pet Actions section of the job guide falls here; 90% of this are healing skills. Scholars can summon a fairy (Eos) that heals their allies, effectively working as an extension of the Scholar's will! Eos requires an order from Aria to cast a skill; if not given an explicit command, she'll just follow Aria around and heal any of her allies that take damage. Very occasionally, she'll transform into a Seraph, which allows cast protective shields on her allies. As Eos is an extension of Aria, she'll follow the same rules on healing/shielding as her ( so she'll injuries, but can't heal illnesses, etc ). She'll only be summoned when there's an explicit task to be performed, and disappear shortly after.
Role actions: Specifically repose (inflicts a target with a sleep), esuna (cures a detrimental effect / status condition), and rescue (magically brings a target to her side)!Repose is a very light sleep that can be shaken off if someone else is around to wake them. Rescue only works on party members, so someone would have to be working with her for her to be able to use it on them. Repose and rescue will be limited to once a thread.
Resurrection: Used to bring allies back from being knocked out at a temporarily weakened state The "weakened state" would translate to grogginess & disorientation. Limited to once a thread.

MISCResearcher: Arcanists are magical scientists, mathematicians, and engineers. This is all Aria's done for most of her adult life — if given the opportunity, this is all she would be doing as a full-time job! Combined with the Warrior of Light's supposed aptitude, she's an incredibly smart individual with a lot of knowledge in how magic in Etheirys works, the mortal body, and Arcanima. She's got an affinity for the maths & sciences, and her memory is very good. She's probably got a healthy knowledge of a whole host of other topics as well, but I'm personally not that smart so I'll be limiting myself to this.
Alchemist: Her one crafter/gatherer option. With the right equipment, she knows enough to create her own tinctures, inks, and codexes to keep her self-sufficient as a scholar. This can naturally translate to other chemistries as the game progresses, but those will require some level of effort on her part.
Adventurer: She's used to roughing it out there; she's got some decent survival skills! She's used to long travel & navigating on her own. I imagine this + her alchemist background means she has working knowledge of botany / foraging, but it's not particularly impressive.

Character Information

Character: Aria Forzane, Warrior of Light
Canon: Final Fantasy XIV ( & near the end of base 6.0, just before she's about to be teleported back on to the Ragnarok after her battle with Zenos ).
Age: 28.
History: The Warrior of Light is a malleable protagonist/player character in FFXIV! Given this, I wrote an entry on Aria's backstory & specific details for MSQ, which also includes links to a comprehensive summary for each expansion.
Possessions: Clothes on her back, the Azem soul crystal (now useless), the Scholar soul crystal.
A bag containing tinctures, materia, food, herbs & other botanical goods; none of it will be enough to do anything significant.
Weapon: Her codex, which looks like this. ICly, it's her own personal notes & 'shortcuts' for her to cast her spells, and the primary weapon of Scholars in game.

This does imply that she can cast spells without it; and I imagine she can for spells she's cast hundreds of times, like summoning Eos — but it will be much, much slower (sort of like doing complicated math without a calculator), and limited to simpler spellwork.

Powers/Abilities: For the sake of brevity, only the powers I intend to bring/use will be listed. I'll give a brief description of how each power works, whether they'll be brought ✓ as-is, or ↓ nerfed with any relevant addendums.

✱ Anything that affects another player character (or named NPC) will require explicit permission from the player/mod (this is most of her kit, so please consider this a blanket disclaimer).

AS THE WARRIOR OF LIGHT
The Warrior of Light (WoL)'s described to be someone who is so powerful that her power can rival that of gods. The reason for this is explained away with her "dense aetheric composition"; 'aether' here is the ambient magical energy that occupies all living beings. For Aria specifically, this mostly just means she's a very talented spell caster, but it also comes with some protag buffs.

Blessing of the Light: A ward placed on her by Hydaelyn to prevent aetheric corruption. It keeps her from being magically charmed or manipulated, and protects her allies from intrusions by Hydaelyn's enemies. — ↓ nerfed. The blessing still holds despite Hydaelyn's death, so she'll still be protected from magical/mental manipulation. The ward on her allies will be gone entirely.
The Echo: The "power to transcend souls". It lets her see & experience the memories of a person as they lived it, speak all languages naturally, and catch glimpses of a person's soul. — ✓ as-is.
Soroban's Blessing: It lets her breathe underwater. — ✓ as-is.
Warrior of Light: She has a natural aptitude for picking up skills quickly, and she can freely learn & switch between all 20 combat styles ( jobs ) with the help of a Soul Crystal ( an artifact that distills a particular job's abilities ). — ↓ nerfed. She'll pick up mundane skills easily ( like driving a car ), but anything more complex ( like hand to hand combat ) will still take time. She'll also lose the ability to switch between jobs, unless it's been earned via player plot.
Spell-caster: Spell casters in FFXIV can use magic for practical reasons that have nothing to do with combat or healing: such as animating objects, basic telekinesis, transfiguration, teleportation, etc. — ↓ nerfed. There's no explicit scene with the WoL doing most of this, but she's presumably a very powerful individual. So I'd like to propose that: all practical magic she casts will be weak & just for flavor ( limited to things like floating objects or starting a campfire ); she'll never solve a significant problem ( ie, the conflict in a thread ) with just this and nothing else. If this isn't an option at all, that's also totally fine.

AS A SCHOLAR
Scholars are one of four available healers in FFXIV — they're users of Arcanima, a school of magic that manipulates the aether via mathematics.

That said, FFXIV skills don't translate very well to a written medium! So I've grouped & distilled them into sections, with extra descriptions for any notable skills.

— ✓ as-is.
Summon Eos: Everything under the Pet Actions section of the job guide falls here; 90% of this are healing skills. She'll only be summoned when there's an explicit task to be performed, and disappear shortly after. I'd like to imagine with how powerful Aria's aether supposedly is, and with fairies being largely a creature of aether, her personality is more a reflection of Aria's current mental state. If this isn't allowed, please let me know!
Role actions: Specifically repose (inflicts a target with a sleep), esuna (cures a detrimental effect / status condition), and rescue (magically brings a target to her side)! — ✓ as-is. Repose is a very light sleep that can be shaken off if someone else is around to wake them. Rescue only works on party members, so someone would have to be working with her for her to be able to use it on them. Repose and rescue will be limited to once a thread.
Resurrection: Used to bring allies back from being knocked out at a temporarily weakened state — ✓ as-is. The "weakened state" would translate to grogginess & disorientation. Limited to once a thread.

Application Questions

Who is the most important person in their life and why? What might be different if this person hadn't been around?
At the exact moment of her canon point: as embarrassing as it is, it's herself. Hero of the Star, Savior of Eorzea, the Warrior of Light — the fate of the world rests solely on her shoulders, and she knows it. Not to say that she could have done this alone or that she didn't have any help to get here, but on the flip side, no one else but her could defeat the embodiment of despair and keep her from destroying everything. The world was not going to save itself; it couldn't be saved by some of the most powerful people she's come across — which makes her importance even more paramount. If she doesn't exist, neither does anyone else. Ergo, it's her. It can't be anyone else but her.

Which — she succeeded! The world is saved! And she's at the point where she's going to suddenly become a lot less important in her life very soon. Aria doesn't necessarily equate the impact someone had in her life, or how much she cares about them to importance. Whoever is important is the key person that can continue to protect the people that she cares about. In times of crisis, that's (usually) her.

Though for what it's worth, there was a very long stretch of time when none of this was the case; for a long time her brother was everything; her best friend, her only ally, the person she trusted more than anyone else. This became doubly true after his death. After a long time of grieving him, it was the long, long list of everyone she had lost during the events of the game ( as strange and backwards as that is ). It's the fact that she had to lose them that makes more of an impact in her life than their identities, because every subsequent death just reminded her of the first. They ( or their deaths ) were the most important thing in her life then.

Is there an event in your character's life that they'd do differently? How so and why?
Unfortunately, her life is a series of poor life decisions that have led her to this moment. Aria's motivated by her desire to be her own person, which doesn't mix well with her responsibilities as a hero. She's moved past most of it now, and she knows to curb her impulses and do her job ( sometimes to the extreme ), but it took a lot of hard lessons before she could get there. ( In her eyes, ) Her passivity and wariness in the early days after joining the Scions of the Seventh Dawn was what caused the betrayal of the Crystal Braves, overconfidence in her abilities led to Haurchefant's death, and her resentment towards the Doman Resistance led to Yotsuyu and Zenos getting far as they did. Then of course, this began because she dragged her brother to his death when she wanted to be a hero by joining the resistance all those years ago.

This leaves her in an interesting spot; she knows she needed these lessons to be who she is today. She knows that who she is today is better, in that maybe — just maybe — she's learned enough lessons that she doesn't have to learn any more ( lmfao ). The first time was enough, thank you, and the idea of having to go through it again is kind of devastating. So if there's a world where Hayato didn't die but still leaves her in the right space to make every correct decision, then she'd probably take that. But that's a tall ask; what's more realistic is that she'd probably have to learn some other lesson along the way, and — yeah. No thanks. She'll just stick with what she has, losses and all, and keep moving forward from here.

What's the greatest challenge you foresee your character facing in the setting? How might this impact their ability to adapt and in what ways will they confront this challenge?
Her biggest challenge is also going to be her biggest strength — the Scions of the Seventh Dawn, her beloved castmates and friends, are here. She cares about them very much! She just thought she would have lost them for good, barely got them back, and thought that in the process of making sure they'll be okay, the price to pay would be her life ( which ... she was okay with, sure, but it's still a pretty big decision for someone like her ). She's going to want to shoulder on every burden ( again ) to make sure that she can protect them from the worst of it ( again ), while pretending like nothing is wrong ( again ). Such is the duty that she's chosen to take on when she chose to really live up to being a hero.

It's probably not the healthiest mindset to have. She's going to struggle with it regardless of their presence; if they're here, then she has to protect them. If they're not, then she's devastated by the fact that they're gone.

What's the easiest thing you foresee your character adapting to in the setting?
Honestly with the sheer amount of nonsense she's seen, and her general "sense of adventure" that comes with ... well, being an adventurer: she'll very quickly hit a certain 'this may as well happen' with the general landscape of the Diadem. She's traveled through time, to other worlds, gone to space. Seen horrors and wonders she could have never imagined. Not to mention she's probably dead when she gets back?? So why not have one last, grand adventure? What's the alternative? Not explore every nook and cranny of a landscape that's always changing? What kind of hero doesn't persevere against their circumstance? Definitely not her. She'll adapt and overcome, or so help her.

QUICK CAST PRIMER
feel free to use any of this as common / known info. for all intents & purposes, canon events will be left alone with as little variation as possible UNLESS it's been discussed with the relevant castmates!

i assume she experienced all the optional Dungeons, Trials, Raids ( both 8 man & 24 man ), and the Field Operations quests. she did not complete all the job quests or rolequests, except Scholar and Alchemist. otherwise, she's done a smattering of side quests here and there.

→ born & raised in Limsa Lominsa. fell in love with Arcanima VERY early in her teenage years and sort of just stuck with it.
→ her parents are retired merchants somewhere close to Wineport; she doesn't talk about them much, but will occasionally take her leave to visit them between lulls. she's an only child.
→ theoretically she could use job stones and change her job, but i don't find that fun or exciting so she's a one trick Scholar. if she had the time she'd be a full-time researcher.
→ enjoys: wine, coffee, collecting books. the joys of discovery.
→ she very rarely gets drunk. her tolerance is pretty high, but she also cheats by using esuna.
→ highly competitive and hates to lose. will randomly just egg people on for no good reason just to see what'll happen.
→ loves to act like she has no buttons to press; she does tend to be pretty even-keeled, but the few buttons she does have usually leave her with quite a temper. it'll very rarely be directed at the people she considers her friends (read: the Scions), but she's less graceful with others.
→ unironically licks shit she finds on occasion to figure out what they are. what's it gonna do? kill her? she's the wol.
→ she's a self-sufficient alchemist when it comes to inks & tinctures! this comes with a lil bit of botany knowledge as a result, but not enough to do anything really useful with it.
→ her codex is the closest thing she has to a prized possession, but for all the ways she appears indulgent she's not very materialistic. her bag, outside of the necessities, tends to be very sparse.
→ her handwriting is pretty, but she writes everything in the worst shorthand alive so it's probably indecipherable.
Eos, having worked as Aria's summon for so long, tends to behave more as an extension of Aria's aether (and by extension, her affinities & emotions) more oftentimes than not. it's not super noticeable most of the time bc she's summoned as an as-needed basis, but this is mostly an excuse for me to have her sit on people's shoulders. c:
→ visual references: ARR > HW > SB | SHB > EW | DT | scars ( nsfw; she's down to undergarments. )

that said!
→ for the Scions, the first 2 points above are what they got as her 'life story' during ARR to SB; it is also a lie! sorry. you can assume she's told them the truth about it at the end of base Stormblood, especially if they were present in SB. or don't! i'm down for whatever's more fun.
→ for everyone else, she'll stick to the above as her "public" version of her life story until she can't. her reactions to that can be pretty explosive, though.
→ she used to be pretty reticent. she'd give reports of 'what happened' re: game events pretty comprehensively and accurately, but she often omitted her own feelings or thoughts at every turn. she probably started getting better about sharing information at around early/mid-ShB, but she's still prone to keeping folks at arm's length.
→ her identity as the 'Warrior of Light' has always been something she kept pretty separate from who she is as a person; she understands the need for a figure especially in times of strife, and she plays up every part the dashing, charming hero people make her out to be. how much she likes being the WoL is something that changes overtime.
→ this is just a really long winded way to say that she lies a lot to make herself a lot more palatable than she normally is.
PRE-GAME | 1.0
→ born Kanon Mizuhiki on the coast of The Ruby Sea, where her parents worked as traveling merchants across Othard.
→ not that she remembers them; they died when she was a baby, and her older brother — Hayato — raised her in Kugane. spent a bulk of her childhood & teenage years as varying levels of a street kid. as far as she's aware (ie, as far as Hayato used to tell her), her parents were killed by Garleans.
→ eventually (think 16-17), picks up the vaguest of rumors about the Doman Liberation Front, and convinces her brother that this is their calling. this is a discussion that takes years before he finally agrees. they find a small group of like-minded people that all decide to travel together.
→ surprise: it doesn't go well. Hayato dies when they're discovered by a squad of Garleans stamping out rebellion hopefuls. in hindsight, she's pretty sure the whole thing was a set up :')
→ terrified, alone, and prone to making poor decisions, she fucks right off on the first boat to Vylbrand with the last of their savings.
→ "Aria Forzane" is actually a name she gave out as an impulse to the first person that asked, and a series of completely nonsense syllables. it stuck, though.
→ the part about falling in love with arcanima and sticking with it is not a lie!
→ at some point dalamud fell. honestly by then she was probably in limsa, and used it as an excuse to act as though she was there the whole time.

→ for all intents and purposes, "Kanon Mizuhiki" does not exist anymore. she's Aria Forzane, and attempts to call her by her birthname will not be received well.
A REALM REBORN
DISCLAIMER: the passage of time is fake, please don't ask me how long it's been since ARR. it sure has been a while! i will also be linking a detailed synopsis of each expansion with each section, with this entry serving as a tl;dr of aria's specific thoughts for those that are canon familiar.
expac summary

→ there's nothing special about her adventuring background. she more or less falls into doing favors for the city states by being at the right place & time in Limsa Lominsa.
→ when being 'good at it' and 'nosy enough' gets her picked up by the Scions of the Seventh Dawn, her first instinct is deep suspicion ( given prior events ). it's actually spite at her former self that gets her to join, as a way to prove to herself that she's not the same person she was that got Hayato killed — over-ambitious, idealistic, etc. she's an Adventurer now, and not whoever she was before.
→ this doesn't mean she's not kind or friendly! she still is. she makes every attempt to make herself appear likeable. she doesn't trust them, but that doesn't mean she's rude.
→ the rest of base ARR ( defeating Primals, investigating the Ascians, leading an assault on the Garleans ) goes as written in that someone tells her where to go, and she goes and does it.
→ she's practical enough to take whatever she can when she faces Ultima, but her relationship with Hydaelyn is ... wary at best, suspicious at worst. there's nothing more unknowable than the presumed god of the world, and she can understand things like wanting to carry on a legacy ( see: Louisoix & the Scions ), but not unconditional benevolence.
→ there's also a lot of 'why her' that she simply doesn't get an answer to, and that bothers her! she wants to become the Warrior of Light through her choice and abilities alone, and Hydaelyn choosing her keeps her from doing so. this will come back later.

→ the moving of the Scion's headquarters, their relation with the city-state leaders, and the Crystal Braves are actually things she ... tries to keep her hands off of. again — she's an adventurer, and the goal at this stage was to not get over-invested. she'll relay messages, run errands, and beat Primals up, but she's largely leaves the decisions to the Scions.
→ Moenbryda is the first Scion-adjacent individual she ends up trusting enough; it helps that she's largely removed from everything else. she also gets along pretty alright with Midgardsormr. all things considered. she definitely didn't need Hydaelyn's blessing, nope.
→ so the rest of the patches ( the kidnapping of Minfilia, Moenbryda's death, the Bloody Banquet ) and are a wake-up call that all of the decisions she has made were pretty bad!
→ she seriously considers running as she exits the sewers after her escape, regardless of what happened to the rest of the Scions. Alphinaud showing up and looking even worse about the betrayal of the Crystal Braves is what makes her decide otherwise.
HEAVENSWARD
expac summary

→ taking shelter in Ishgard is a weird parallel to her first arriving in Limsa. she definitely thinks about none of this by throwing herself to helping the Fortemps, because it has nothing to do with any of her previous problems. nothing like the politics of a country she doesn't care about to take her mind off her troubles!
→ except ... it sort of ends up being true — being in Ishgard and working for the Fortemps are things she jumps at very readily. she's happy for the opportunity to save Raubhan, and learn that Nanamo isn't dead. this time, the little steps in being able to take control of her situation mean a lot to her, even if she doesn't verbalize a lot of it.
→ this also means the most of base Heavensward as a whole are carried out very close to the script. by the end, she hates Thordan, is devastated by Haurchefant's death, is less devastated but still saddened by Ysayle's, and is deeply concerned for Estinien. at least the Dragonsong war is over, and Ishgard is in better hands.
→ to note: she takes every advance that Haurchefant makes on her. she has not met Estinien prior to the events of Heavensward.
→ the only point of note is, of course, her reaction to Hydaelyn's blessing being returned to her — which she views more as a necessary evil at this point more than anything else. she's accepted that she's committed to being the Warrior of Light for better or for worse.

→ most of the patch content also goes pretty close to script given said commitment; notable differences include:
→ she does grow more suspicious of Hydaelyn after Minfilia's disappearance, and finding her at the top of the Anti-Tower both makes her feel better and worse at the same time. how many more people does Hydaelyn feel like she needs to take, what's even the point of being the Warrior of Light if people keep dying, etc.
→ the whole Warrior of Darkness business she finds extremely exhausting; the implication that other worlds have failed what she's trying to do isn't something she actually cares about? sorry you sucked but i'm better, etc.
→ the Ala Mhigan resistance is a little personal for her (as is Garlean occupation as a whole), but she definitely keeps that feeling under wraps. the existence of Omega is more concerning than anything else that happens on Baelsar's Wall, with the exception of Papalymo's death.
STORMBLOOD
expac summary

→ when the attempts at recruiting Ala Mhigo to their cause goes poorly, she almost considers strangling Alphinaud for suggesting that she goes to Doma. but Aria Forzane has never been to Kugane before! it shouldn't matter!
→ and to be clear: no one recognizes her. there's no huge confrontation that forces her to reveal her past. she really was a nobody, and that's why she left. it's the juxtaposition in people's treatment that gets to her. the fact that nothing has changed in the 10+ years she's been gone really bothers her, because it proves that she really led her brother to his death for no reason.
→ the Othard arc ( traveling between Kugane, Yanxia, the Steppe, and finally Doma Castle ), and the remainder of the Ala Mhigo arc ( storming Castrum Abania, neutralizing the Skulls & Fordola, and the final assault to take back Ala Mhigo ) passes with her regressing back to doing the absolute bare minimum. things were easier, after all, when she was just the Scions' firepower.
→ she makes every effort to be cordial to Yugiri, Gosetsu, and Hien, while also deeply resenting them. hilariously, she really can't give two shits about Zenos' obsession with her because she's so wrapped up in her own crisis.
→ liberating Doma & Ala Mhigo doesn't... make her feel better? neither does winning against Zenos ( now Shinryu ). she's happy, sure, satisfied that she did something good, but depression's a bitch and she doesn't have a therapist to talk to.
→ she does come clean about her past to the Scions, shortly after Lyse steps down from being a Scion. she also insists that they agree to two things: that they won't make a big deal out of it, and that they will continue to treat her as 'Aria' both in public and in private.

→ most of the patches goes as written; she walks away with a lot of sympathy for both Fordola and Yotsuyu, who have both given her a lot to think about in terms of the choices one makes in order to survive in this world — in some ways, she really wasn't that much better than either of them. she wasn't working for the Garleans, sure, but she still abandoned her homeland and ran away.
→ to note: her friendship with the Scions was slow to develop — mostly because of her hang ups — but after everything they've been through it's hard not to trust them. it's hard to say when she went from considering them friendly coworkers to people she actively cares for ( it definitely happened before she came clean to them, even if she hadn't realized at the time ), but she figures it's not all that bad.
→ so the fact that the Scions start disappearing and/or collapsing really came at a bad time. she starts seriously considering if she's cursed to lose everyone she cares about. it does not help her depression in the slightest.
SHADOWBRINGERS
expac summary

→ to establish a few things: she does NOT trust the Crystal Exarch, but also has very little interest in knowing who he is. her opinions on the Ascians have never been great, but Emet-Selch seems to have a sense of humor so he might be the best one yet. being in the First is pretty alright ( outside of the Scions being stuck here ) because she feels like she can do something about the circumstances here and not have it affect her directly.
→ meeting Ardbert again is ... extremely strange, at first. they don't necessarily get along from the get-go, but it's also difficult to put airs around someone who's just happy to talk to her for a few hours each night (okay, a lot of hours each night). she's probably pretty forthcoming about her life as an adventurer, but less-so about her childhood. it's a good way to take her mind off things!
→ the re-gathering of the Scions and the returning of the night sky both proceed close-to-written. she's more active about it here than she has ever been! it feels like she's slowly but surely regaining control over things she didn't really have control over. except—
→ to Aria, absorbing the Light is an act of atonement. she's trained enough in aetherology to understand why what she's doing will kill her. that doesn't mean she's going to stop, though. this is a choice she can actively make where she can also foresee the way it would backfire, so that means she can figure out a way to fix it all. obviously. ( spoilers: she doesn't )
→ the corruption from the Light does leave a mark on her, though. ( nsfw reference. )
→ she takes the news of Hydaelyn and Zodiark being primals pretty well — there's some level of betrayal over not being told everything, but she also knew she wasn't... being told everything. the fact that they're primals though means that they're just as fallible as every other primal, and that's actually pretty comforting to her. there is a hidden motive behind her being Hydaelyn's chosen. it's conditional.
→ the fact that they are all parts of a sundered whole, on the flip side, she absolutely hates. all the control she's managed to establish in her life being reduced to "you're just a fraction of something that was once great" sets her off. if she wasn't steps from turning into a Sin Eater, she would have tried to take out a block of Amaurot or something.
→ coming back full circle: she realizes the Exarch is G'raha at the last possible second, and while a lot of his motives were pretty discomforting ( she doesn't do well with hero-worship ), they make sense in hindsight. Emet-Selch can go rot in hell for trying to see if she'd measure up to someone that's been dead. the First kind of sucks, but it's still better than the Source right now. she tries to call for Ardbert for a few nights after the end of base Shadowbringers but gets no answer.

→ outside of the overarching identity crisis that comes from learning she's sundered, she's in a better place than she was at the end of Stormblood. having the problems be something they can actively work on instead of being blindsided by them helps. so! after 3 expansions, she finally feels like the hero that the Scions say that she is.
→ Elidibus also pisses her off. for many reasons. she considers actually blowing up a block in Amaurot this time, and only decides against it because she may ( begrudgingly ) want to study it and she'd never forgive herself if she was the reason she couldn't. needless to say, the realization that she's 'Azem' is something she very much tries to ignore.
→ re: the Seat of Sacrifice, owing Emet-Selch her life is ... complicated. she doesn't like thinking about that, either.
→ when G'raha returns to the Source is when she finally forgives him for the events of Shadowbringers. she doesn't tell him this, nothing about how she treats him changes, but that's when she decides that she can try and get over it.
→ Fandaniel might be her new favorite because at least this guy doesn't look like gives a shit about who she was or wasn't in her past life, or whatever. trying to save the world from being destroyed is such a simple and straightforward goal with no other implications that it's almost refreshing.
→ oh but Fourchenault can go kick rocks. at this point she's fully ready to die for each of the Scions*

* G'raha & Estinien will need an expansion's worth of a trial before she commits to this
ENDWALKER
expac summary

→ the early parts of Endwalker go pretty close to script; she does Esuna herself pretty immediately after arriving in Thavnair, but lets the rest of them suffer. she definitely tries to flirt with Erenville. her opinion of Old Sharlayan is less than kind. she's of the firm belief that knowledge that can help others should be shared! she probably butts heads with the Forum members pretty actively on top of everything the Scions say, especially Fourchenault. she may not be an Archon, but she's an academic in her own right.
→ she's in a better place now, but she doesn't really have the sympathy that she probably should re: Garlemald. the fact that she shows restraint and opts for peaceful resolutions where she can is probably a sign of her growth, but she's pretty displeased about all of it. it's hard for her to sympathize with them no matter how dire their straits are now.
In from the Cold is the first time she's genuinely furious at Zenos ( now that she has the mental bandwidth to give a shit ). i think there's also a heavy dose of guilt at what could have happened. if i remember to come back to this i'll expand on it later.
→ it is very cathartic to fight ( and defeat ) Zodiark, though, if for no other reason than this proving that Hydaelyn is also a primal as well. the loporrits are cute but she trusts them as far as she can throw them, since it looks like they're working with the Sharlayans. that said, the stakes don't really register for her until she's back in Thavnair, and goes through Vanaspati; she knew that this was ( yet another ) calamity, but how close this one gets to all the others takes her a second.
→ it's no secret at this point that Elpis really rubs her the wrong way. she mitigates some of it by thinking of them as entirely different people compared to their 'counterparts' in the present. i don't think it works 100%, but it becomes easier to manage if she can separate Azem from herself, Venat from Hydaelyn, Hades from Emet-Selch etc. it's a coping mechanism.
→ the fact that this was a plan that was 10,000 years in the making both ... helps and hinders, though. the lack of agency on her part still very much stings, but the fact that Hydaelyn was ultimately as human as the rest of them makes her relation to Azem a little easier to swallow. she'd still insist that she's her own person, and that her soul being a sundered part of someone else means absolutely nothing; it's just done with a little bit more sympathy for the ancients. she really doesn't like thinking about it. she deeply resents having to learn about it. but it's only gotten more complicated now.
→ she gets to see a fleeting memory of her brother in the Atiascope. she realizes she's older than him now. she almost cries but tries hard to be very brave about it.
→ don't ask her how she felt when she defeated Hydaelyn she's repressing that.
→ she definitely cries after everyone's gone in Ultima Thule, just before the final walk up to Meteion. i think it's less the fact that she's there alone ( though it is a little bit of that ), and more the unwavering faith from the Scions. she's gone through the motions of playing this grand, bigger-than-life hero so many times that at some point she wanted to become that person. but everyone else already thinks she is. and she wants to live up to that so badly.
→ it makes owing Emet-Selch and Hythlodaeus one more favor to bring them back completely and utterly worth it. at least, that's how she sees it. she has zero intentions of admitting this to the two of them or the Scions.
→ i think some part of her definitely wanted to fight Zenos — it's closure for her. but after being beaten down to almost nothing during Stormblood, after being beaten down to nothing the first time when she was a teenager, she needs to understand that she's... better than that now? the occupation isn't solely on Zenos' head, but he's sort of the last person standing with direct ties to it.
→ that or she's so delirious after fighting the Endsinger she's "honestly fuck it why not" about it. if she kills him here at least everyone back home will be safe. if she doesn't, he'll end up dying anyway.
→ anyway so she's probably dead now. it's fine.

OUT OF CHARACTER

style brackets. my prose is slower but i can match.
backtagging within reason.
tagging speed i try not to let things sit for more than a day. happy to boomerang/slowmerang if our schedules align.
threadhopping public network are ok! for anything else, please ask.
fourthwalling please ask.

not interested in non-con; otherwise not much else. if unsure, ask!

IN CHARACTER

affection
go for it! most of it won't really bother her. she'll initiate if the situation calls for it, or if she think it'll get her an interesting reaction; but she's not particularly touchy-feely outside of that.

violence
please!!! unfortunately she looks like a noodle (and is... a noodle physically) but she is still a very powerful magic user in her own right, so she won't be the easiest to hurt.

that said i love any excuse to get her some injuries, so as long as it's not permanent you don't need my permission to rough her up. if you want it to be permanent, let me know.

relationships / intimacy
21+, f/anything. she'll happily flirt with anyone that can consent, and if things escalate she's more than dtf. that said, she requires a certain amount of plausible deniability for just about anyone she's involved with romantically (ie, an emotional escape route), which definitely isn't for everyone. oocly if feelings get involved, i'd prefer to chat ahead of time!

psychic / magical info
she's protected by a blessing that prevents her from being magically charmed or manipulated. i think this tends to mean that her mind can't be read, but also i think weirder things would have happened in cross canon interactions — so if you think it'll be fun, let's do it! she won't be happy, but i will.

ic offensive subjects
not much tbh. if there are any, she won't tell you. ( destiny, things bigger than herself, the consequences of her poor life decisions. )

misc
truly it's almost embarrassing how powerful she is... i try not to think too hard about it, and i'm always happy to bend some rules if i think it'll result in a more fun time for everyone! so if you wanna do something, please don't hesitate to let me know. i'm happy to try and make something work!!

OPT-OUT

as it stands, Aria's story contains the following: HOMELESSNESS, IMPERIALISM, MILITARY OCCUPATION, LOSS OF LOVED ONES, WAR and (as of her canon point) NIHILISM & SUICIDAL IDEATION.

i try to keep mentions of all of the above to a minimum, unless we've discussed otherwise! that said, if you'd like to opt-out of any themes or tagging her in general, please let me know in a comment below. all comments are screened.

Character Name: aria forzane
Username: [profile] excog
Canon: final fantasy 14
Canonpoint: post patch 5.55
Background: background prior to the events of final fantasy 14. there's no simple wiki link for the events of the actual game, so here's "jay describes each expac with a single bullet point".

→ Shortly after her arrival in Limsa Lominsa, Aria gets involved with the 3 city states' (Limsa Lominsa, Ul'dah, and Gridania's) attempts at fighting the Primal threat. She helps! People find out she's the Warrior of Light. Some less than cool dudes named the Ascians are found out to be the reason the primals are going nuts. But she and her friends of the Scions of the Seventh Dawn save the day! Then they get framed for poisoning the leader of Ul'dah and run to Ishgard.
→ Turns out Ishgard's also at war. Turns out that the ancestors of Ishgard killed some really cool dragons then covered it up to the rest of the world, so the dragons are pissed — so they've been at war for a century. Aria finds out about this while trying to stop said war and overthrows corrupted fantasy catholicism! But she loses the only person who believed her when she was framed for the poisoning. Unfortunately one of the ancient dragons is super insane and makes her other good friend (Estinien) insane too. It gets fixed but Estinien disappears to find himself and atone for his crimes.
→ Her efforts with Ishgard is recognized with the city states and she (and the rest of the Scions) can come back! But turns out that the most technologically advanced country in Eorzea — the Garleans — is looking to take over the world? And they've already occupied two locations — Ala Mhigo and Doma. So begins a rebellion tour to bring the city states together to fight against the Garleans! The leader of the Garleans gets obsessed with Aria. It's honestly kind of creepy.

In the process, her past is revealed to the Scions, and she needs to contend with the fact that everyone knows she got her brother killed. It sort of helps that she's able to free Doma, and makes peace with it — kind of. Both Doma and Ala Mhigo become free city states of their own accord, and an alliance across all city states is born! At the same time, all of her friends start keeling over and their bodies lose their souls. At the end, her soul is also taken to—
→ The First! Turns out that there are 14 different universes, but most of them have been destroyed due to the Ascians who are trying to bring all 14 worlds back to bring their world (and god) back. Aria, along with the rest of the Scions, have been brought from the Source in an attempt to stop it. At this point, Aria discovers that she is the reincarnation of the original Ascian from the days past, part of the main council of individuals in an Utopia that had been destroyed in the apocalypse. She saves the world, at the cost of almost turning into a monster herself, and manages to get her & her friends back home.

CURRENTLY: Aria and the scions are back on the Source, but it turns out that during their adventures in the First, the Garleans have preparing for a war against the rest of Eorzea. Another Ascian is found to be aiding the Garleans because he's a huge nihilist. Aria's so fucking tired of all these crazy people in her life.
Inventory: she's bringing her main tool as a scholar, a codex. it lets her cast magic, and is the main record of all of her studies! it looks like this ( the glowy bottles mean literally nothing ). very cool.
Abilities: as the warrior of light she gets a bunch of random powerful nonsense, which i don't really feel like bothering with. for as far as locomo will be concerned:

healer, magic user. she is, after all, a scholar through and through. her healing & battle magic is well-versed and powerful, though she tends to excel best in situations where she's supporting others & dealing with the tactical backend. her branch of magic is specifically called arcanima, where she applies the ambient magical energy of Eorzea (aether) into specific shapes and formulas to do what she wants. like magic engineering. she's a magic engineer.
eos. one particular thing she can do with her aether is to manipulate it into a faerie. Eos' basically a personification and conduit of her magic, but for the sake of rp i pretend she has 3 whole personality. she cannot speak. she mostly just flutters and heals, while rolling her eyes at aria.
the echo. the "power to transcend souls". long story short, it gives her the ability to see & experience the memories of a person as they lived it, and gives her the ability to speak all languages naturally. will be used with player permission.
misc. she's also an alchemist & tinkerer by hobby, and she's somewhat proficient in a bunch of different weapons & magic (none of which she particularly cares to use). thanks, protag syndrome.

CHARACTER SURVEY

What are your character's motivations? What drives them? Who are some important people to them, if anyone?
Aria goes because she doesn't know how to stop. Ever since getting involved with the Scions of the Seventh Dawn and (repeatedly) saving the world, she's taken to her role wholeheartedly because it's her job and not anyone else's. She's less driven to be good and more driven because she... is.

Important people include: her brother, Hayato. The Scions of the Seventh Dawn. That's about it.

If given the chance, what would your character change about themselves or their circumstances?
her conscious answer to this is nothing. despite all her hardships, she tries not to have any conscious regrets or wish for a different life. she's happy with her life because it's her's. that said, there is very little she wouldn't do to bring her brother back, so make of that what you will.

Strengths? Favorite things?
being smart(tm), math, battle strategy, sheer magical power. confident, charismatic, loyal.

coffee, wine, people. talking shop with willing participants. flirting relentlessly, doubly so if the recipient is uncomfortable. stirring shit.

Weaknesses? Fears and phobias? Anything they regret or avoid?
stubborn, proud, prone to lying. quick to judge, rash, ambitious to a fault. terrified of abandonment.

( her life is a series of regrets but that won't stop her ) while saving Doma helped with her childhood traumas, she still blames herself for the death of her brother. at the same time — she's selfish to a fault, and doesn't want to necessarily stop from doing what she wants. so while she cares about the people around her, and is very much "i'll die for you" levels of loyal, none of these things will stop her from chasing after what she thinks is right, no matter the cost.

Where does your character fall on the moral spectrum? Are they the average, law-abiding citizen? A mischief-maker? A genocidal villain? What are some of the things they've done for or against the greater good?
in terms of alignment, Aria's chaotic good; she's had to curb some of her more law-breaking ways and try and stay within the rigidity of working with official figures. that said! she's still god a solid streak of mischief and will likely turn a blind eye to any unsavory things being done in her presence, if not take part indirectly.

she has killed, brought countries to war, and nearly turned into a monster to do what she believes is the right thing. she has also reunited families, aided in rebellions against an imperial regime, and ended hundred year wars through the power of friendship. at any given moment, she's always trying to do what is the most "good" — it's just that she's not afraid to get her hands dirty.
